The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and your responsibilities

Every organisation or sole trader who processes personal information needs to register with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and pay a data protection fee to the ICO, unless they are exempt from paying a fee.
The cost of your data protection fee depends on your size and turnover. There are three tiers of fee ranging from £40 and £2,900, but for most organisations it will be £40 or £60. The payment does not include VAT.
If you are storing, controlling and processing personal data then you will need to register and pay the fee or notify them that you are exempt.
If you have previously paid a fee, please go here to renew or check your renewal status.
If you are required to have a Data Protection Officer (DPO) under the GDPR or you choose to appoint one, you should also tell the Information Commissioner’s Office about this.
If you need help with your other data protection obligations, including any relating to payments or your obligation to pay, please call the Information Commissioner’s Office on 0303 123 1113, or email dataprotectionfee@ico.org.uk.
Clever Accounts are unable to confirm your status so any enquires should be directed to the Information Commissioner’s Office using the above details, or a data protection specialist.
